B.J. Novak's Sweet Message for Mindy Kaling Will Make You Believe in Soup Snakes
Mindy Kaling has had a lot on her plate recently, including becoming a mom, co-creating new NBC sitcom "Champions," and starring in a string of high-profile films, like the just-released "A Wrinkle in Time." It was the latter occasion that inspired Kaling's close friend (and former boyfriend) B.J. Novak to pay tribute to the actress, and his sweet message sent fans into a 'shipper frenzy.
In a photo posted on both Twitter and Instagram, Novak shared a picture he took of a "Wrinkle in Time" poster emblazoned with Kaling's face, located at a bus stop.
When I met @mindykaling she lived in a small apartment on Fairfax Ave. This is what's in front of that building today. Congrats Mindy and a future congrats to all those who see you in it and are inspired to do great things. @WrinkleInTimepic.twitter.com/tGpwA9mBsQ

"When I met @mindykaling she lived in a small apartment on Fairfax Ave," Novak captioned the snap. "This is what's in front of that building today."
The writer-actor went on to praise his pal for her success, and helping to blaze a trail for others like her.
"Congrats Mindy and a future congrats to all those who see you in ['A Wrinkle in Time'] and are inspired to do great things," Novak wrote.
Oh my god I'm like full crying. I will never be mad at you again https://t.co/aaikJtxSYC

Responding on Twitter, Kaling wrote, "Oh my god I'm like full crying. I will never be mad at you again."
On Instagram, Kaling had a more succinct -- but also more loaded -- comment, simply sharing a pair of emoji."The Office" fans already know that that combo stands for "soup snakes," a reference to Michael's (Steve Carell) botched reading of "soul mates" when talking about Holly (Amy Ryan). It's a phrase that Kaling and Novak have used frequently with each other, with Kaling even devoting a chapter in her most recent book, "Why Not Me?," to the reference.
The pair, who dated on and off for several years during the heyday of "The Office," have remained close ever since, and frequently stir up gossip that their romance is back on (most recently when Novak accompanied Kaling as her date to the Oscars earlier this month, pictured above). While they continue to claim that they're just friends, this latest soup snakes sighting certainly has fans convinced otherwise. (Just check out the comments sections on Novak's social media posts for proof.)
Whatever the truth may be, we're just glad to see famous friends continue to support each other in such a public way. Here's to soup snakes -- platonic or otherwise -- everywhere.
