'Birds of Prey' Lands 2020 Release Date
The upcoming female-centric DC flick "Birds of Prey" has officially landed on a release date.
Warner Bros. announced on Monday that the film -- starring Margot Robbie, who's reprising her immensely popular Harley Quinn character from "Suicide Squad" -- will hit theaters on February 7, 2020. As Deadline notes, that's a pretty crowded month for new releases, with that week in particular also housing the debut of "Peter Rabbit 2," followed by the bow of the recently-moved "Bond 25" the next weekend.
DC is betting big of "Birds," which is being described as an R-rated girl gang film that unites some of the comic house's favorite heroines and villainesses. Robbie has taken an active role in the film's development, and has focused on making the production as diverse as possible, including championing the hiring of director Cathy Yan.
That diversity is also reflected in recent reports of the lineup of actresses being considered for the film's major roles. Stars that are said to have auditioned include Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Cristin Milioti, Jurnee Smolett-Bell, Janelle Monae, Margaret Qualley, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Sofia Boutella, Justina Machado, and Roberta Colindrez. According to TheWrap, another round of actresses is to screen test this week as well.
It will be hard to wait so long to see the finished product, but we're glad to have an official premiere date to look forward to. 2020 can't come soon enough.
