9 Biggest WTF TV Moments of 2015
So, which TV moments left viewers scratching their heads and picking their jaws up off the floors this year? From the Super Bowl's "left shark" to true crime docs that are way stranger than fiction, here are 9 TV times that had us all saying, "WTF!?"
Nicki Vs. Miley, 'MTV Video Music Awards'
The MTV Video Music Awards are definitely known for producing outrageous moments, and this year's most talked-about one went down when Nicki Minaj picked up the award for Best Hip Hop video. The performer called out Ms. Cyrus, who was on hosting duty, for talking about her in the press by asking, "Miley, what's good?" and referring to her as a b-word that rhymes with witch... The pointed phrase pretty much became the meme of the year. Stunned fans wondered if the whole thing was staged, but it looked like Nicki's anger was the real deal.
Derek Bites the Dust, 'Grey's Anatomy'
Wha?! No more Mer and Der? "Grey's Anatomy" has given us its fair share of blubbery moments, but this mind-blowing death takes the cake. Is nothing sacred in Shondaland? McDreamy's death was a doozy, which is why it landed at the top of our saddest TV deaths of 2015 list...
Jon Snow Gets Stabbed, 'Game of Thrones'
And now we have Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" in our head... "Game of Thrones" is another series that's sure to shock when it comes to the death count, but everyone and their grandmas were stunned to see poor Jon Snow lying lifeless in the snow that fateful finale night last June. Something tells us he'll be back, though.
Paro, 'Master of None'
If you're not familiar with Netflix's "Master of None," it's a funny realistic look at life in 30-something NYC single life from comedian Aziz Ansari's eyes. And episode 8, "Old People," introduced us to a very odd (and very real) product: Paro, a therapeutic stuffed robotic seal companion. It's like a fuzzy Tamagotchi for the elderly. And it's totally weird. But it's also really cute. The more you know...
The Big A Reveal, 'Pretty Little Liars'
ABC Family teased A's reveal like nothing else, because we've only been waiting, like, five years for #answers. But the WTF-ness didn't come from the fact that it all came down to the CeCe Drake AKA the former Charles DiLaurentis, which we guess is kind of a cool twist -- it was that the whole event was kinda (womp, womp) disappointing overall. This is "PLL," people!
'Killed Them All,' 'The Jinx'
Did he really just say that? Andrew Jarecki's riveting Robert Durst HBO miniseries doc concluded with a final scene that was nothing short of jaw-dropping. Now-accused murderer Durst's muttering of the words "what the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course" to himself while being recorded on a hot mic in the bathroom made true crime history.
Pretty Much Everything, 'AHS: Hotel'
"American Horror Story" is known for its "what was that?!" scenes, and this season is no exception. Blood-soaked orgies, dildo killers, vampire fetuses -- oh my! We wouldn't expect anything less from Ryan Murphy... and Golden Globe nominee Lady Gaga.
Netflix's 'Making a Murderer'
This is a late addition to the 2015 roster, as it was only made available for streaming December 18th, but it just can't be denied. The gut-wrenching 10-part series which follows the twisty case of Wisconsin accused criminal Steven Avery is the most binge-worthy doc of the year. It's a spellbinding look at the criminal justice system that will leave you saying "WTF?" over and over and over.
The Left Shark, Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show
Super Bowl XLIX probably won't be remembered for a New England Patriots victory -- the real winner was one of Katy Perry's backup dancers. The now-famous "left shark" was so completely out of time with the singer and the costumed performer to her right, he spawned a Twitter account, Halloween costumes, and tons of questions as to why he couldn't keep it together at the biggest show of the year.
