'Big Little Lies' Author Has Written Source Material for Season 2: Report
One major obstacle to "Big Little Lies" Season 2 seems to have been removed.
There has been talk of extending the hit HBO miniseries almost from the moment it concluded, but a big problem loomed: "Big Little Lies" was adapted from a single novel, and the show had already covered its source material. Worse still, author Liane Moriarty had no plans to write a sequel.
Luckily, popular demand -- from the show's fans, stars, and producers alike -- have apparently prompted Moriarty to start writing more. After working on new ideas, she has now finished a novella that could serve as source material for "Big Little Lies" Season 2, according to Deadline. The show's creator, David E. Kelley, is reportedly evaluating its potential.
At the Emmy Awards on Sunday, where the show won multiple honors, HBO Programming President Casey Bloys expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of continuing the limited series.
"The producers are all talking, they seem very excited," he told Deadline. "I haven't seen anything yet but I'm hopeful because they are so excited."
It all sounds very promising, especially given how willing to continue stars like Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman seem. We're crossing our fingers that this all works out.
