Best of Late Night TV: Kimmel Trolls Fallon With 'Heatherball' Game, Jeff Goldblum's Baby Talk
If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.
"The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," "Late Night With Seth Meyers" and "The Late Late Show with James Corden" were all on repeats on Monday night. That left "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Conan" with new shows, and they were ready to steal your attention.
Jimmy Kimmel trolled Jimmy Fallon -- who always has elaborate games for his guests -- by setting up a game called "Heatherball," aka tetherball with Heather Graham's face on it (brilliant!), with guest Bob Odenkirk (mock) refusing to play. Bob said he wanted to just sit down and talk to Jimmy, and called his publicist on stage to complain that he was being forced to play a stupid game.
Bob talked about "Better Call Saul" vs. "Breaking Bad" and he brought his own interview questions to JKL. He felt like Jimmy was the kind of guy who could cut through the BS and ask the real questions people want to know. Like, "Why are you trying to steal Jon Hamm's Emmy?"
Jimmy also had fun with the One Direction "break," mocking the news media coverage and texting his niece about the split.
Here's Jimmy demonstrating virtual reality Facebook and what a nightmare that could be:
Patricia Clarkson told Jimmy she was just in London doing a play ("The Elephant Man") with Bradley Cooper. She had to be naked and cry (at the same time), and she wanted the royal family to be in The Royal Box and see her naked.
Over on "Conan," Jerrod Carmichael showed how he gave away free copies of his new show's pilot on VHS. But the tapes don't actually include the pilot episode, they include his rants about the moon landing.
Jeff Goldblum talked to Conan O'Brien about being a new father, and they showed how his son's favorite toy is Jeff's nose. Cute. But it sounds like he's not the most hands-on dad in terms of changing the baby and doing practical stuff. Conan also revealed what he's watching on TV, with details from the INFO button. Cue shade for "The Apprentice," NFL Preseason football, CBS Evening News, "Boston EMS," "Dating Naked," "Devious Maids," "Pawn Stars," "Bones," and "Bachelor in Paradise." The "Bones" one is pretty good. Finally, Conan introduced the female Viagra, "Vagalis," which takes a while to kick in:
