Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Reteam for Boston TV Series 'City on a Hill'
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are drawing on their Boston roots once again. The "Good Will Hunting" BFFs just sold a "gritty" drama pilot to Showtime.
"City on a Hill" is set in Boston in the early '90s, when an African-American district attorney joins forces with a corrupt FBI agent to clean up the crime-ridden city. The two begin by taking on a family of armored car robbers, Variety reports. It's a fictionalized account of what was called the "Boston Miracle" and sounds like the flipside to Affleck's 2010 bank-robbing hit "The Town."
Chuck MacLean (who also wrote Mark Romanek's upcoming "Boston Strangler") wrote the script, based on the premise by Affleck. Gavin O'Connor, who helmed Affleck's "The Accountant," will direct the pilot.
"Chuck wrote a pressure-cooker of a script steeped in the tribal codes of a Shakespeare play — family, blood, betrayal, honor," O'Connor told Deadline. "His take on the ties that bind is handled with a deep honesty and insight. I see the show as a brawling thriller — and an intimate family drama — played out on the rough streets of Boston."
A Shakespearean, crime-busting "brawling thriller" set in Beantown? We're in.
