'Barry' Trailer: College-Aged Barack Obama Tries to Find His Place
The man we now know as President Barack Obama was once just a college kid called "Barry," as we'll soon see in the new Netflix film of the same name.
The streaming service dropped the movie's official trailer Monday, showing a young Obama at the start of his junior year at Columbia University. He finds himself straddling multiple social spheres and struggling to define who he is and what it means to be an American. Netflix describes the film "the story of a young man grappling with those same issues that his country, and arguably the world, are still coming to terms with 35 years later."
Based on the trailer, the film will provide an intriguing look at his past.
Devon Terrell plays Obama, and the cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Ashley Judd, Jason Mitchell, Jenna Elfman, Avi Nash, Annabelle Attanasio, and Ellar Coltrane.
"Barry," which is directed by Vikram Gandhi, was met with praise when it premiered at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival; its next stop is Netflix on Dec. 16.
