'Bad Boys 3' Is Back, Now With a 2020 Release Date
Here we go again!
It feels like every year "Bad Boys 3" gets a new departure date, only to be delayed again like it's stuck in perpetual airport limbo.
But at least they're still trying. And this time -- nine months after it was removed from Sony's previous release calendar -- "Bad Boys III" is scheduled for January 17, 2020.
The first "Bad Boys" movie came out in 1995, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as Miami detectives. The sequel, "Bad Boys II," came out in 2003. Lawrence and Smith have been talking about "Bad Boys III" since at least 2010. Then it was officially announced back in 2015, with Joe Carnahan as director, and a release date set for February 2017.
Then the film was delayed again to January 12, 2018 -- but with the threequel getting the official title "Bad Boys for Life" and Sony even adding the hopeful note to EW that "Bad Boys 4" was still in the works with a release date of July 3, 2019.
But forget all of that now. Joe Carnahan left as director in early 2017 due to scheduling conflicts, and Sony removed the third movie from its schedule this past August. After many years, it looked like "Bad Boys III" might never be made at all. Whatcha gonna do?
But now, TheWrap reports, "Bad Boys III" -- still called "Bad Boys for Life" -- is back on the calendar for January 17, 2020.
We'll stay cautiously optimistic, but until the stars show up at the movie premiere, the date will stay in pencil not ink.
