Armed Intruder At Director Spike Jonze's House Forces Police Standoff
Director Spike Jonze had a scary morning: He came home to his find an armed intruder in his house around 6. am.
According to TMZ, Jonze, was able to leave his house, which is in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, and call the police.
The intruder, who was armed with a knife, refused to come out. After a standoff of several hours with a SWAT team, the man finally surrendered to authorities.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the standoff.
"The notification is there was a burglary suspect who entered the residence and barricaded themselves with a knife," LAPD spokeswoman Lizeth Lomeli told the NY Daily News.
Jonze (whose real name is Adam Spiegel) won the 2013 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the futuristic romance "Her," which he also directed. The film was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Song. He was previously nominated as Best Director for 1999's "Being John Malkovich."
His other films include "Adaptation" and "Where the Wild Things Are ."
He's also known for such landmark music videos as The Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," Fatboy Slim’s "Weapon of Choice" (which features Christopher Walken dancing around a hotel lobby) and Kanye West’s "Flashing Lights."
He was nominated for Emmys as a producer of "Gaycation" and "Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond."
