Anya Taylor-Joy to Star in Netflix Limited Series 'The Queen's Gambit'
Actress Anya Taylor-Joy ("Glass," "Split") has been busy lately, signing on for buzzy projects left and right. Now, her latest role is bringing her to streaming giant Netflix.
The actress is set to star in "The Queen's Gambit," a limited series based on the 1983 Walter Tevis novel of the same name. Taylor-Joy will play Beth Harmon, an orphan and chess prodigy growing up in the Cold War era.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama will follow Beth "from age 8 to 22 as she struggles with addiction and goes on a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world." It will run for six episodes.
This will mark Taylor-Joy's second collaboration with Netflix, following her upcoming voice role in the star-studded "Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance." Also continuing his relationship with the streaming service is Scott Frank, the creator of Emmy-nominated western series "Godless," who will write, direct, and produce "The Queen's Gambit."
No word yet on an expected release date or additional casting. Taylor-Joy will next be seen in a new adaptation of Jane Austen's "Emma," and the latest film from Edgar Wright, "Last Night in Soho." (And, eventually, "The New Mutants." We think.)
