Amy Adams Goes Dark (and Wet) for HBO's First 'Sharp Objects' Trailer
The first trailer for "Sharp Objects" is very much a teaser -- haunting music, whispers, and dark images with no real context or plot. The real emphasis is on the pedigree. You'll want to watch this for who's in it, and who's behind-the-scenes.
"Sharp Objects" is based on the bestselling novel by Gillian Flynn, the author of "Gone Girl." Amy Adams stars as reporter Camille Preaker, "who returns to her small hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely."
"Big Little Lies" director Jean-Marc Vallée directed all eight episodes, and also co-edited the limited series. Marti Noxon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "UnREAL") is showrunner, with Gillian Flynn writing several episodes herself. The producers of "Get Out" are also attached.
Patricia Clarkson plays Amy Adams' mother (PERFECT), and the supporting cast includes Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Taylor John Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Madison Davenport.
Check out the teaser trailer:No dark thriller is complete without a splash-the-face-then-look-in-the-mirror scene, or someone being startled in a bathtub.
"Sharp Objects" will be the ATX Television Festival's opening night screening and panel, June 7 in Austin, Texas. The eight-episode limited drama series premieres on HBO this July.
