Not even a ghost is a match for a mother on a mission to protect her young, says Ali Larter.

The mother-of-two channels her maternal instinct as she battles evil spirits in a haunted home in "The Diabolical."

"What would you do to protect your family? What sacrifices will you make to make sure that your children are safe?" Larter says are the questions her character Madison, a single mother-of-two, faces in the sci-fi horror flick.

In "The Diabolical," Larter’s Madison becomes a prisoner in her own home after evil spirits harass her children and threaten to take their lives if they step foot outside. To get rid of the demons, she gets help from her scientist boyfriend.

"I haven't played a lot of roles where I got to think about how you help a son where these things keep happening to him—and having a social worker come to your house or trying to date again and introduce someone into that family dynamic," she says.

"This is a family story—This is about a family struggling to get their life together and all of these things keep happening to them."
