Adam Levine is walking away from his big red chair.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is "The Voice" after 16 seasons as a coach on NBC's singing competition series.

Host Carson Daly announced the news on "Today" this morning. He also revealed that Levine will be replaced by Gwen Stefani, who has coached in three previous seasons.

Levine has been a coach since the show first premiered in 2011. He and Blake Shelton are the only two coaches who have appeared in every season. Three contestants from Levine's team have won "The Voice."

In a long Instagram post, Levine wrote, "For me, it was time to move on."

Daly noted that many fans will miss the "frenemy" relationship between Levine and Shelton, and the singer himself addressed that in his post. "BLAKE FUCKIN’ SHELTON. I couldn’t hide my love for you if I tried. Seriously. I tried. Can’t do it," he wrote. "Our friendship is and always will be one for the books."

Levine won't be leaving NBC entirely; he is an an executive producer of the network's songwriter competition "Songland," which premieres May 28.
