ABC's 'The Mayor' Is (Unofficially) Canceled
Bad news, fans of "The Mayor." ABC has pulled the fledgling series from its schedule.
Variety reports that the show, starring Brandon Micheal Hall as a hip-hop artist who is elected mayor, is "effectively canceled." It costars Lea Michele, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears, Yvette Nicole Brown, and David Spade.
Reruns of "Modern Family" will fill "The Mayor"'s Tuesday, 9:30 p.m. time slot. The sitcom was set to return from midseason hiatus on January 9.
Variety reports that the network has no plans to broadcast the remaining four episodes of the first season, but hasn't officially decided to nix a second season. But being yanked from the schedule is never a promising sign.
It initially premiered to great reviews, with Vulture calling it "one of the most promising new network shows of the fall season."
You can still watch Hall on the TBS series "Search Party."
