ABC Developing Marvel Show Led by Female Superhero
With "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." set to end after its upcoming seventh season, ABC is in "active talks" to bring another Marvel show to the network. And it would be led by a female superhero.
ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told Deadline, "I have spoken to Marvel and we are in active talks about one project in particular.”
Burke did not reveal which character might headline the show, but she teased that that it would be "something brand new, mostly” and fit in with its strategy of female-focused superheroes.
This potential series is unrelated to a show ABC had in the works last year with "Wonder Woman" writer Allan Heinberg. That project was about female characters with superpowers, but did not make it past development.
Besides "S.H.I.E.L.D.," Marvel has two other series on television, Freeform's "Cloak and Dagger" and Hulu's "Runaways" (which are doing a crossover episode). They are also making a handful of shows for the forthcoming Disney+ streaming platform, including "Falcon and the Winter Soldier," "Loki," "WandaVision," "What If…?," and "Hawkeye."
