A Prequel to 'The Sandlot' Is in the Works
You're killin' me, Smalls!
Believe it or not, it has been 25 years since "The Sandlot" came out in 1993 and became a cult classic. The coming-of-age sports film was co-written, directed, and narrated by David Mickey Evans.
Now, Deadline reports, Evans is attached to co-write a prequel script reportedly following the legend of the beast from the first movie.
Deadline said 20th Century Fox is in early development on the prequel, and there were no further details.
The original film starred Tom Guiry as Scottie Smalls, and co-starred Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Quintin Adams, Grant Gelt, and Shane Obedzinski.
"The Sandlot" was followed by two sequels -- "The Sandlot 2" in 2005, and "The Sandlot: Heading Home" in 2007.
Since the prequel project is in early development, it may be a while before we hear more. In the meantime, catch up on this "Sandlot" trivia in honor of the 25th anniversary.
