Back in the 1980s, ‘The Fall Guy’ starred Lee Majors was Colt Seavers, a stuntman who has a side hustle putting his work skills to good use as a bounty hunter. Aided by his cousin Howie, who has gone to practically every college and studied every course for a semester, and his protegee, Jody, he also helps friends who are framed or being threatened by criminals.
It was a product of the prodigious Glen A. Larson, who also brought the world shows such as ‘Magnum P.I.’, ‘Battlestar Galactica’ and ‘Knight Rider’. His work has often been adapted for small screens and big, and the latest is this new movie based on the ‘Fall Guy’ concept.
With ‘Bullet Train’s David Leitch –– who brings considerable experience with stuntmen thanks to his own past in the field –– directing and ‘Iron Man 3’ co-writer Drew Pearce on script duty, ‘The Fall Guy’ in movie form has Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt starring. The first trailer for the movie has now arrived.
What’s the story of ‘The Fall Guy’?
Gosling stars as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who, having left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health, is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie — being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno (Blunt) — goes missing.
While the film’s ruthless producer (Hannah Waddingham), maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody’s good graces.
But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.
Who else is in ‘The Fall Guy’?
The cast also includes Stephanie Hsu, Winston Duke, Teresa Palmer, Ben Knight, Adam Dunn and, though he’s not glimpsed in the trailer, we’re promised a cameo from Majors.

David Leitch on the inspiration for ‘The Fall Guy’?
Leitch is on record as being a big fan of the original show, which lit the fuse for him and those in his generation to join the stunt community. And he told Empire that he wanted to celebrate those who risk it all to make movies happen.
Here’s what he said:
“What I really wanted to do is highlight how much love and passion there is in the stunt community for making movies. This movie is a love story, but also a love story in terms of making movies. To the stunt community, and all the below-the-line, blue-collar artisans that craft these films that we love to see in the cinema. That’s how we wanted to enter it.”
