Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Review

‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Begins New Chapter in Beloved Saga. The 10th movie in the long-running ‘Apes’ franchise offers thrilling action, striking visuals, and intriguing ideas, but needs a stronger script.

‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,’ the fourth film in the rebooted storyline that began with 2011’s ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes,’ mostly continues the high standard of quality set by that film and its two follow-ups, 2014’s ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ and 2017’s ‘War for the Planet of the Apes.’ It smartly plays off the narrative of those previous three movies, while starting its own new storyline with a brand-new cast of characters. While pacing issues and an underdeveloped subplot keep it from the upper tier of ‘Apes’ entries, ‘Kingdom’ is still a worthy installment that should leave fans largely satisfied.

Planet of the Apes (Reboot) Collection

Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver's reboot/remake of the Planet of the Apes inspired by news articles on apes raised as humans and advances in genetics. Jaffa conceived an idea for a film about a genetically enhanced chimp raised in a human household. The film series focuses on a chimpanzee, Caesar who when given a substance designed to help the brain repair itself, gains advanced intelligence which leads to an ape uprising.
