If your day so far was achingly free of Keanu Reeves in a sharp suit beating people up/shooting guns or even riding a horse again––in the desert this time!––then the new trailer for ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ is here to provide.
Yes, Mr. Wick is back, having survived a fall at the end of the third movie that would seemingly kill any mortal man, and he’s angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. Actually, we would, since it means more balletic, brutal fight scenes and a globe-trotting mission to take down his enemies once and for all.
What can we expect from the new John Wick?
Seemingly ditching the idea of fancy subtitles after the third chapter was called ‘Parabellum’, ‘Chapter 4’ nevertheless maintains the standard ‘Wick’ formula: impressive clashes, vehicular action, mythology around the world of assassins and a blend of Zen and very-not-Zen from our title character.
Not much has been revealed about the story so far, but there is a basic synopsis: John Wick uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes…
The whole High Table angle has been slowly revealed across the franchise. Reeves and director Chad Stahelski have worked on four of these movies so far (David Leitch co-directed the first, but has since moved on to other things, such as the recent ‘Bullet Train’).
‘Chapter 4’ finds the price on John’s head continuing to rise, with him preparing to take on the High Table on a bigger scale than ever before. The cast is absolutely stacked, with this trailer giving us better looks at new characters Killa, played by Scott Adkins (that’s him, under all those prosthetics); the sword-wielding Akira, AKA mega popstar Rina Sawayama; and John’s new nemesis, the Marquis de Gramont, played by ‘Barbarian’s Bill Skarsgård.
And in case all that wasn’t enough of a challenge, there’s also martial arts legend Donnie Yen.

Who else is back for John Wick: Chapter 4?
With Reeves front and center once again, we also have the return of old friends (assuming they stay that way given the friends-into-foes thing) Laurence Fishburne as the Bowery King, Lance Reddick as Continental hotel concierge Charon and Ian McShane––who is almost certainly on the outs with Wick after his betrayal the last time around––as the Continental’s manager, Winston.
Talking of the hotel––and Winston––it will be the focus of the ‘Wick’ spin-off series ‘The Continental’, which chronicles the earlier days of McShane’s character (with Colin Woodell playing the younger Winston and Mel Gibson also in the cast). That show will arrive via Peacock this year.
And on the big screen front, the Wick world is expanding too, with ‘Ballerina’, starring Ana de Armas as an assassin on her own revenge path, with McShane officially aboard and Reeves reportedly showing up too.
‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ will be punching its way into theaters on March 24th.
