Óscar Catacora Biography
Óscar Quispe Catacora (August 18, 1987 – November 26, 2021) was a Peruvian film director, screenwriter, and cinematographer. At the age of 17, he produced his first experimental short film, Unforgivables, and from that moment, he developed several experimental short films in collaboration with the production company Cine Aymara Studios. Two years later, he created an experimental medium-length film titled El Sendero del Chulo, produced on video.
In 2017, he released Wiñaypacha, his debut feature film, which won awards at various international festivals and represented Peru at the Goya and Academy Awards. Yana-Wara (2023) was his posthumous film, as he passed away due to appendicitis during its production in November 2021.
