Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish Team Up For Gritty Drama 'The Kitchen'
Two of Hollywood's funniest ladies are teaming up — but not in a comedy.
Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish are headlining the gritty drama "The Kitchen," according to Deadline. Andrea Berloff, the co-writer of "Straight Outta Compton," will make her directorial debut.
The movie tells the story of the Irish mafia in Hell's Kitchen, New York in the 1970s. After an FBI raid sweeps up the mafia's top leaders, their mob wives take over — and run the business in even more brutal fashion than their husbands.
This is the first straight dramatic role for McCarthy, who is a well-known and beloved comedienne from movies like "Bridesmaids," "Ghostbusters," "The Boss," and "Spy." Haddish became a breakout star last year thanks to a brilliant turn in "Girls Trip" (and also for her hilarious retelling of a story about Will and Jada Smith and Groupon). She can next be seen opposite Tracy Morgan in the TBS sitcom "The Last O.G." starting in April.
