Oscars 2017: 'Deadpool,' 'Suicide Squad' Land on Makeup and Hairstyling Shortlist
Seven movies will advance to vie for an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, including two of the year's biggest superhero films.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced that the shortlist consists of "Deadpool,""The Dressmaker,""Florence Foster Jenkins," "Hail, Caesar!," "A Man Called Ove," "Star Trek Beyond," and "Suicide Squad." Three of these movies will earn a coveted nomination on Jan. 24.
The movies include both lavish period work like in "Florence Foster Jenkins" and intricate prosthetics like in "Star Trek Beyond." The Swedish film "A Man Called Ove" features extensive old-age makeup. Last year, "Mad Max: Fury Road" took home the category's prize.
Notably absent from the shortlist are "Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," biopic "Jackie," and blockbuster "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." But it can be a bit of a wacky category — "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" and "Norbit" can count themselves as Oscar nominees thanks to it.
